Our Story

Welcome to the Collectors Corner a small home based nursery specialising in rare and unusual perennial plants, bulbs and shrubs.

From humble beginnings in 2009 I started selling my special seeds on Trademe under the trading name of “collectorscnr”, progressing on to dry flower bulbs and then plants. Within the first few weeks of trading I became what is known in trademe as a “Top Seller” and have been in that category ever since. I have now decided it’s time to launch out with my own ecommerce site.

I have been an avid collector of rare and unusual plants and old fashioned favourites, for a lifetime and its nice to be able to share these around the gardening community so they are not lost.

I am always on the lookout for something different and new items are being added regularly. The plants and seeds are listed year round. The collectable items that are most sought after and can sell out very quickly

Plants are potted in 9cm pots, using a commercial grade potting mix with slow release fertilizer added. The plants are all grown from cuttings, division and or seeds, some of the seeds are sourced and imported from the most reputable seed houses around the world. Plants are well rooted and ready to go into the garden on arrival to your door.

Several times during spring and summer we attend a few well known markets, in particular Garden Marlborough that we have been supporting for many years. It’s great to meet our regulars face to face at these events.

Being a professionally qualified florist by trade, I like growing perennials that a suited to cutting for a vase, along with different coloured foliage plants. It doesn’t end there – bulbous plants are also a passion, in particular collectable Oxalis species and bulbous members of the iridacea genus. There are also many bee and butterfly friendly plants in the mix as these insects are most beneficial to the garden.

The seeds are dispatched each week day by NZ post or a tracked Courier New Zealand wide and include sowing instructions. Plants are dispatched by tracked courier New Zealand wide, usually Monday to the North Island and Tuesday as well for the South Island so as to avoid a hold up in a courier depot over a weekend

Sadly we are a mail order nursery only, and not open to the public.
